Books Are Shipping!
over 1 year ago – Fri, Sep 23, 2022 at 01:52:13 AM

The rest of the books showed up at my house this morning, so we finally had them all under one roof — at least for a few hours. This afternoon, the US Postal Service showed up to haul away the first batch of books. I had the postman back his truck up on my lawn, right to the front door, so we could load the 800-some pounds of US-bound books into the back of it.

Whew!

Today, I got the rest of the US-bound books packed up and ready to go. That means that all current domestic backers — including retailers — should have their books in their hands by the end of next week. Hopefully sooner!

Unfortunately, I won't be in town next week — I'll be in Sweden, working on a new video game that hasn't been announced yet — so I'm afraid that the foreign shipments are going to have to wait just a wee bit longer. As you know, international shipping is a wild beast these days, and I'm chatting with the experts at Atlas Games about the best way to get those books to all you patient international backers. I hope to polish off the rest of that shipping soon after I return home.

That will leave only the Shard Tabletop bits to finish. My son Pat has been working hard on this and is putting the finishing touches on it and then zapping it out to the fine folks at Shard. I'll let you know as soon as it's ready for you.

Meanwhile. We still have 20 folks out there who made pledges but still haven't filled out their surveys. IF YOU HAVEN'T FILLED OUT YOUR SURVEY YET, NOW IS THE TIME!

Also, 9 backers have had their credit cards declined for their shipping or add-on charges. I realize that BackerKit makes it a little odd by getting your credit card information at one stage and then not charging them right away, but NOW IS THE TIME FOR THAT TOO!

Thanks once again to all of you for your patience and support. This has been a wild ride to get all this done, and I can't wait for you all to have those books to enjoy!

The Books Are (Mostly) Here!
over 1 year ago – Tue, Sep 13, 2022 at 06:40:38 PM

A big FedEx truck just pulled up into my driveway and dropped off two pallets of Shotguns & Sorcery: The 5E Sourcebook! The books look fantastic, and I hope you'll be as pleased with them as I am. The standard cover has a wonderful matte finish that feels velvety to the touch, and the deluxe edition looks fantastic with its gilt edges and crimson ribbon marker.

The truck o' books!
The pallets! That's regular on the left and deluxe on the right.
They look amazing!

Marty is coming down to Beloit to start signing the books with me today. After that's done, we can start shipping them out.

Well, most of them. There are two issues to deal with.

First, the printer shorted us about 100 books for the standard edition, but they're printing them right now, and they should show up next week. I had the ones now in my garage shipped out now so we could start getting them out to you straight away.

Second, a few dozen of you fine folks have yet to complete your surveys. I'm going to sent out reminder emails to you, so if you get one, please complete your survey right away! Otherwise, I can't get your books to you.

Thanks again to every one of you for your support!

Printing Update
over 1 year ago – Thu, Aug 25, 2022 at 10:21:56 PM

I just heard back from the printer. The pages are all printed have been moved over to the bindery, where they get stitched together and put into the covers to make them into actual books. There's still a bit of extra work beyond that, though, due to the ribbons and gilt edges that go with the deluxe edition.

They weren't willing to commit to a firm date on delivery to me because of that, but they should be able to get me one next week. They're in Tennessee, so it shouldn't take them long to get up to my house in Wisconsin. Much faster than having to wait for them to be shipped here from overseas!

Once the books do show up at my house, Marty and I need to sit down and sign loads of them. Then we'll pack them all up and start shipping them out. We should be able to have them all to you in September, which is a little later than I would have liked, but not by much.

In any case, I hope you all had a wonderful summer. Either way, go make the most out of what's left while you still can.

Thanks for your support!

Page Proofs
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Jul 31, 2022 at 12:22:31 AM

Hi, Backers!

I've had a wild couple weeks — heading out on a vacation and then turning around and rolling out to Comic-Con — but I'm still keeping things moving here. I received page proofs for the book, and they look fantastic. Here are a few highlights.

The cover for the book. Excuse the wrinkles. They send these on large sheets, folded for shipping.
The die for the deluxe cover. We're going with a red leatherette with gold foil stamped on all the black parts. Should look snazzy!
The frontispiece.
Production asked me if I wanted anything printed on the endsheets, so I quickly whipped up spreads with the Dragon City map on them.
The front end sheet has no text on it, so you can show it without spoiling anything. The back one is fully labeled.

The book is slated to ship to me at the end of August. Since Marty is getting married(!) and moving north before then, I decided to have the books shipped straight to my house so I can drag him back here to sign them. I'm now planning to ship all of the domestic books from here, but Atlas has kindly offered to handle the more complicated international shipping still. We may well take them up on that.

I'm going to be at Gen Con starting a week from tomorrow, and I have a packed schedule. If you'll be there, please say hi! I'll post my full schedule on my website soon, so check there for details.

Thanks for all your support!

The Book Is Done!
almost 2 years ago – Tue, Jul 05, 2022 at 11:13:43 PM

THE BOOK IS FINISHED!

(Whew!)

The files are already off to the printer, and I just pushed a big button over at DriveThruRPG to send the PDF edition off to all backers at the $30 level or higher. It also comes with a zip file that contains:

  • A set of blank character sheets, both in color and black and white, standard and fillable.
  • A set of printable inserts for your customizable GM screen (portrait orientation).
  • A set of 4k-resolution wallpapers for your computer.
  • A set of high-resolution backgrounds for your phone or tablet.

I've also sent the files to be prepared for the Shard Tabletop edition coming to all backers at the $30 level or higher.  I believe that's the only thing we have left to deliver,  — other than the printed books, of course!

If you spot any big mistakes, let me know! One of the benefits of getting the PDF to you now is that we can get a lot of eyes on the book before the presses start to roll. There's a narrow window in which we can still fix errors, and it won't last long.

A few important things to add:

  • If you don't get the email from DriveThruRPG with your free copy of the PDF, please check your spam folder. If you still can't find it, email me at [email protected], and I'll get you set up.
  • PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR BACKERKIT SURVEYS! A whole 91% of you have managed this so far, but that still leaves us 79 backers shy. I'd like to lock orders and charge cards soon, so please take care of that ASAP.
  • If you or a friend want to add books to your order DO IT NOW. The standard edition of the book is a bargain at $60. Due to the rising cost of printing, the print-on-demand edition will sell for at least $75!
  • THE PRE-ORDER STORE IS STILL OPEN. Tell your gamer pals they can still get in on the deal for the standard and deluxe editions of the book if they move fast.

Thanks so much for your continued support!
